Mark Ella has twin brother Glen, a sister Marcia
and a younger brother Gary. His cousin is League player Steve Ella. Marcia
played international netball for Australia and the three brothers played
Rugby Union for Australia. Ella was born in 1959 in La Perouse, in New South Wales. His whole family was born there, but obviously they were born in different years. Glen, Gary and Mark attended Matraville High School, in Sydney and were all chosen to represent the school. Ella was a key member of the Australian School Boy's team touring Britain in 1977-78. Ella played 5/8 for Randwick and had a brain that moved at shutter speed, quicker than anyone else in the game. His playing record : Randwick - 8 Grand Finals, NSW 23 games, Australian Wallabies 26 tests (including 9 as captain) In 1983 he was voted Young Australian of the Year. He was awarded an OAM (Order of Australia Medal) for his services to sport in January 1984. In January 2001 he was awarded with the Australian Sport Medal. Ella now plays a leading role in encouraging little ones to play Rugby and has also become a Rugby Administrator. |
