Cliff Lyons played Rugby League football. Cliff
was born in Narrandere, a Riverina town near Wagga Wagga New South Wales
in 1961. He moved to Sydney when he was 12. He spent 2 years playing with
Mount Druitt Public School before moving to Sylvania. He spent 6
years at Cronulla Juniors while attending Jannali Boys High.
Cliff started his Rugby League by debuting in 1984 for the North Sydney
Bears as 5/8. After playing 53 games for the Bears he moved to England
to play for Leeds. He played 24 games at this club before playing 6 games
for Sheffield and then 216 games for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. He also
played 6 matches for the NSW State of Origin an 6 Tests for the Australian
Kangaroos team.
Lyons won the Dally M Medal twice, he also won the Clive Churchill Award
for the best player in a final.
Lyons played 6 tests for Australia in all those great places overseas
but actually never played on his home soil in Australia. He was also
in the Aboriginal team that played in Tonga in 1990. Cliff played in
4 Grand finals, his team won 2 of these.
Lyons wasn't asked to play for Northern Eagles when the Norths and Manly
teams merged so he retired.
