Arthur (Artie) Beetson was a Rugby League player. Arthur Beetson was born in Roma, Queensland in 1945. At 16 he knew he wanted to be a professional footballer.

Beetson started his career playing centre and then moved on to front row forward.  His playing record includes: Balmain 74 games, Parramatta 16, Eastern Suburbs 132, Hull Kingston Rovers in the English League 12, New South Wales 17, Queensland 3, Tests for Australia 14, World Cups for Australia 14.

Beetson played all 3 Tests against the Great Britain side in 1970.  When he played in the 1973 Kangaroo tour he was recognised as the best forward in the league world. He played 16 of the 19 games on tour and was named captain of the World Series Team.

He captained Eastern Suburbs and won premierships in 1974 and 1975 and then coached them in 1977.

He captained Queensland's victorious State of Origin side in the first match of the 1980 series.  He then later coached the Queensland State of Origin side.  Beetson was judged the best coach for the 1987 season  before leaving Eastern Suburbs to coach Cronulla, where he stayed until 1993.

He stopped playing football and he is now helping young kids to become profession athletes. In 2002 Arthur Beetson was named in the League `DreamTeam'.  A team selected of past player to represent the best League team possible.
