Early Life
* Bruce was born in Toorak, Melbourne.
* He attended Melbourne Grammar School.
* After his father's death, Stanley, his mother and his sister went
to England.
* Stanley went to Cambridge University in England and studied Law.
* Stanley joined the British Army with the rank of Captain in World
War I.
* Stanley moved back to Australia to manage the family firm after
his oldest brother died.
Achievements in Parliament
* He became Treasurer for the Hughes Government in 1921.
* By 1923 at the age of 40 was named Prime Minister of Australia.
* He won a lot of seats for his party, the Country Labour Party.
* He was successful in bringing the new Country Labour Party into
the centre of government.
* He improved the efficiency of the National Economy.
* He was the first Prime Minister to make earmarked grants to the
different states for roads and schools.
* His strategy for expanding Australia was successful.
* The finance of the Commonwealth was increased to State governments.
