Achievements

Bennelong was one of Arthur Phillip's (First governor of NSW) captured Aboriginals.
Captain Arthur Phillip captured some Aboriginal people for them to learn more about the European way of living. He quickly grabbed a few Aboriginal men from the Cadigal tribe and took them to the ship as quick as possible before they could be stopped.

The two men they caught were Colbee and Bennelong. Colbee soon escaped and left Bennelong alone himself, and he stayed for several months.

Colbee and Bennelong returned to the Settlement from time to time, to bring with them their families and others in their group. Phillip soon built a brick hut for Bennelong on the eastern side of Sydney Cove (Where the Opera House now stands). This place is now called Bennelong Point.

When Philip came back to England in 1792, he took Bennelong and his young friend Yemmerrawanyee with him. Bennelong later returned to Sydney in 1795, but Yemmerrawanyee died in England, with the disease Pneumonia.

Bennelong had taken on the role of a politician. Settling with the European settlers on behalf of his people. He was also one of the oldest men in his group, and became very much involved in the concerns of his people.

Eventually, during a tribal fight in Kissing Point, Bennelong died in the 3rd of January 1813.
