BROOKVALE P SCHOOL - SALFORD PROJECT HOMEPAGE

Project Aims:

To develop cultural awareness between partner schools of each other's local and national environment
To develop pupils' Information Technology skills through use of INTERNET
To develop literacy skills of pupils
To develop learning across curriculum areas through joint activities
To develop the ability and confidence to communicate with others

Project Summary:

Teachers and pupils in Salford and Brookvale communicate using INTERNET including email, WWW
Pupils construct Web pages about their schools, life in Salford/Brookvale, life in England/Australia
Pupils undertake projects enhancing learning outcomes across KLAs

Project Management:

Coordinate the participating staff and keep staff updated and informed of progress
Maintain and ensure links between the participating schools continue
Monitor progress of project through visits and meetings
Evaluate project and provide final report
Be a point of contact for external bodies eg. NSW DET

Staff at Salford and Brookvale school will plan and develop the project
LEA will provide extra support and training for Salford staff using the new technology

Timetable of Activities February 98 - July 99:

April/May 1998 - Subject teachers will communicate by email and fax to talk through the initial ideas for content and focus of possible projects
May/June 98 - 2 staff from Salford schools and 1 LEA contact will visit schools in Sydney

May 1998/April 1999 - Work will commence on the topics and project work between pupils in each of the schools/countries. During the year regular monitoring will be taking place of progress on the project May/June 1999 The Project Coordinator will meet in Sydney to evaluate the project, meeting with staff from schools in Australia and representing Salford schools The evaluation report will be written to an agreed framework. All comments from pupils and teachers will be brought to the meeting to contribute to the final report. The final report will be produced by Salford LEA and disseminated to all parties concerned.

Project learning outcomes:

learn how to create text files, graphics files and how to create pages for the World Wide Web. produce quality products.
develop communication skills
develop literacy skills
have their cultural awareness of another country raised
