CROAK Excursion pg1 - Wednesday 2nd September 1998

The Source of Brookvale Creek
We caught the bus to the source of Brookvale Creek in the bush at Allenby Park, in the valley between Beacon Hill, Allambie Heights and Brookvale. Sharon Kinnison from Narrabeen Coastal Environment Centre guided us through the bush. We saw many wildflowers. The creek was flooding because Sydney Water were flushing parasites out of the water pipes. We could hear the waterfall really loudly and the water was racing over the rocks. We walked down a bush track and saw where the creek flows into a big drain at the back of factories in Clearview Place. We then caught the bus to Kentwell Road, North Manly.

The Course of Brookvale Creek

The bus dropped us off near the bridge over Brookvale Creek at Kentwell Road. We had playlunch at Nolan Reserve, then we walked along the course of the creek where it flows between Nolan Reserve and Warringah Golf Course. Sharon showed us some water tests and we tested for temperature, turbidity (clarity) and suspended particles. We saw coral trees being cut down on the golf course. The leaves and flowers of this tree fall into the creek and clog the water. We saw 2 gross pollutant traps that stop stormwater rubbish washing into the creek.
