Reverse Garbage

By Xin-Xin

In Term 2, Years 4/5/6 went on an excursion to Warringah Mall to see a environmental display with Mrs. Guina which was run by the North Sydney Waste Management Centre.

When we got there we looked around and Kent had some photos taken by some photographers with himself in a see-through recycling bin. It was used in an article in the newspaper, the Manly Daily.

After that, we listened to a speech and went to see the worm farm. There was a man and he told us how to find a nice cozy place for your worms and how to look after your worm farm if you have one. We also got to hold some worms and look at them, they were all very wriggling and slimy.

After we finished looking at the worms we also had some morning tea there, it tasted very nice.

We went to see some artwork which were made out of recycled papers and cardboards. There was a lady called Chrissie, she told us something about recycling and showed us artwork which was made out of recycled paper and cardboard. We also did some artwork ourselves. We each got a tin which had all the materials that you needed for making your artwork and got a frame which had some little bits and pieces stuck on it. While we were making our artwork, we did a survey about recycling.

At the end, we all got to take our artwork and tins back to school and we all got a bag which had a frizz bee inside and some little pamphlets about recycling. That was a very educational excursion and we all learned something about recycling and the environment.

Look at all the worms, great for gardens.

On the 24th of May, children that were not in choir went to the Warringah Mall to learn about recycling and worms. It was organized by Reverse Garbage.

We looked at posters and read some booklets. We made our own place farm design. All the designs, decorations and frames were recycled materials.

We took a picture of Kent in a recycle bin and he looked really funny. It was printed in the Manly Daily. We were given little lunch. There were vegetables, ham and cheese sandwiches, fruits like strawberries, watermelon and other fruits. The drinks were apple juice and orange juice.

We saw really small worms and there were about 5000 worms in a little lunch cases. It was a bit disgusting and yucky. At the end we got a cloth bag and with a frizz bee and a tin which was like a piggy bank and other things.

It was good to learn about recycling and fun too.
