At the end of term 4, the Year 6 students went on a trip to the NSW Parliament House, the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Convicts Barracks in the city.

When we arrived in the Parliament House, we met Brad Hazzard who is a member of Parliament for our Warringah. He led us into the Legislative Assembly and also we visited the Legislative Council. The Legislative Assembly was like the House of The Commons which was first started in England a couple of hundred years ago and the whole chamber was a colour green. The Legislative Council was a colour red which is the royal colour and also when we were there they had a meeting held inside it. It was very interesting to learn about these two chambers.

Later on Brad Hazzard took us to see the Press Galleries and the Garden. The garden was very well looked after, it had various types of flowers and trees. We talked to a lady from the Press Gallery, her name was Kathy.

After the visit to the Parliament House, we went to look at the Convicts Barracks. There were displays of old clothes and many other things that the convicts used. The walls were all poorly built and some of the bricks were already fallen out.

The Reserve Bank was also educational and interesting. I was amazed at the way how our money are being produced and how they changed from time to time. Australia is trying to make our currency the safest in world so that it'll be almost impossible to counterfeit.

At the end of the day, we caught the bus back to school, it was a very fun and it was also a great pleasure to meet Brad Hazzard.

Students at Legislative Assembly

By  Mitchell

On Wednesday the 12th of December, Year 6 went to the city on an excursion, we went to many places.

The first place we went to was NSW Parliament House our guide was Brad Hazzard. Brad Hazzard is our local member of Parliament. Firstly when we got there we went to the (Green Room) which is called the Legislative Assembly. We talked a little bit about the room - did you know the Queen can never go in the room and everything that is said is recorded, there are a lot of seats they are all green. When we went there, there was a mace because they were sitting.

After that we went to the (Red Room) which is called the Legislative Council. In the Red Room all things are red the Royal colour. There is a Special chair where only the Queen and the Governor can sit. Also in the room there is a President who sits in front of the Queen or the Governor.

Soon we had morning tea, it was nice. After that we went to see all the Journalists and there were a lot. Next we went to the Press Room. After that we went to Mr Hazzard's office it was small it had many things including a TV with Foxtel, but he never watches it. Also on the TV he can see everything that is happening in the Parliament. Next we went to Kerry Chikarovski's Office, she is the Leader of the Opposition, it was the biggest office with the best views.

After that we went to the Convict Barracks we saw old things that had been under the ground which the rats had dragged under. There was a shirt, sewing kit and a couple of dead rats. The Barracks were made by the convicts. When we were leaving we went to see the were the guards would be, it was small.

After that we went to the Reserve bank. We saw all the printing steps of how they made 50 dollar notes. We saw many old notes and many new notes, and old notes were weird but cool. We got posters. We also went to the Commonwealth Bank it was huge, I had a lot of fun!

In term 4, Year 6 went to the NSW Parliament House to meet Brad Hazzard. Brad Hazzard took us to a tour at the Parliament House.

He showed us the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council. He also showed us offices, gardens, press rooms and other places.

While we were in the two chambers, the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council, Brad Hazzard told us about England, the Queen and many other things. There were two chambers because the Legislative Assembly is only for the members and the Queen is not allowed to enter it. The Legislative Council was only for the Queen.

Then we went to people's offices and talked about them and then we went to the press rooms. After a while we went to the roof garden where we played games and had fun.

After we went to the NSW Parliament House we visited the Convicts Barracks. We saw tools, clothing, dead rats and other things. We also saw their walls. Their rooms weren't very stable.
