Firstly, the book increases a child's imagination and lets them decide what everything will look like in their mind. Plus, improving imagination will keep a child going in life, they will never be bored, when they can pretend.
Secondly, reading skills are valued and the book will always help with a child's use of words and improve their reading. A child will start reading, and continue encouragingly through the series.
Finally, the two and a half hour movie is like watching two and a half hours of television. In the book, you decide how big a character will be and not get stuck watching one version of a scene or character on the big screen.
Read the books. Live the magic.
Brooky Harry Potters!

I think the movie Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was better and always will be better than the book.
Firstly the movie is better than the book because you can hear and see all the characters and the action. For instance I didn't understand how the game of Quidditch worked until I saw it so clearly in the movie.
Secondly the movie was better than the book because you can see all the magic and Hogwarts stuff happening and when you see the magic it looked really cool and it seems like they can actually do it without any tricks! Also I think it's better to watch than to read!
Lastly I think the movie is better because it's more interesting and it's because you can see that the characters actually saying it and maybe there might be something even funnier than the actual book because you can hear and see it. Still I think the movie is better than the book!
Dressed up for the day
On Thursday 29th November Ms Winstons class and 4/5G went to see Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. Ms Guina took us as well as Ms Winston and Ms Tekamp our student teacher came too. We walked down Brookvale when we got there we had to wait.
Everybody was dressed as witches, wizards, muggles and school muggles. Anyone who had a broom stick had to leave it outside and then everybody could go inside and watch the movie.
The movie was excellent with very good graphics that made the movie look real. As the movie started Ms Guina gave everyone a bag of sweets and everyone said 'Thank you'. Ms Guina said "You're all welcome."
I think everyone liked the part when Harry Potter caught the golden snitch. My favourite part was when Harry, Ron and Hermioney played the big Wizard Chess and Harry had to go on but the pieces were real ones with all the giant players. I think it was a great movie.
The film was great!

Secondly, in the movie I liked it when Harry looked in the mirror and he saw the Philosopher's Stone in his pocket, because it was a surprise as we hadn't read this part in class.
Lastly, in the movie, I liked it when Harry, Hermione and Ron jumped through the trapdoor. It was also a surprise as we hadn't read this part in class.

I think that the movie Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was better and will always be better than the book.
Firstly, the movie is better than the book because you can hear and see all the characters and action. For instance I didn't understand how the game of Quidditch worked until it was shown so clearly in the movie.
Secondly the movie is better than the book because it has graphics and the book does not, for example I did not know what Wizards chess was till I saw the movie. The computers they use can make anything you could imagine.
Thirdly, the movie is better then the book because I did not know what Hermione, Ron, Hagrid and Harry Potter looked like, somebody read the book to me and I could not picture out what Harry Potter looked like. However I saw the movie and I actually saw his face in my mind.
For all these reasons I think the movie Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone was better and will always be better than the book.
