On Wednesday the 9th of May, 5/6T and the Year 5 in Ms Guina's class went to C.A.R.E.S. We left school at 9:15 am. When we got there we got put into groups 1, 2 or 3. Then we talked about the rules. The people that didn't have a helmet had to take out the bikes. The bikes were BMX and Cruisers.
Group 1 went to watch the video first, group 2 went to the obstacle course and group 3 went to the track first.
My group (group 1) watched the video and it was really yucky, blood and everything! Then we had to talk about the video. There was a bike that was broken and we had to figure out what was wrong with it.
After the video we went to morning tea and we played handball. Then my group went to the obstacle course and group 2 went to the track and group 3 went to watch the video.
When we went to the obstacle course we talked about the rules and Michelle showed an example, she went on the steady line and we had to give a number out of ten, we gave her 8 out of ten. Then we got a bike and we had to go around the cones and go on the steady line and the fastest line and the practice being slow boxes. Then we had the Slow Contest and Jack won, he took 11.5 seconds.
At lunch and the girls played a game, you had to catch the ball and don't drop it otherwise you have to catch it with one hand.
Then the groups went to different courses, we went to the track and we had to learn the rules again and then we had to get a bike and I got the cruiser. It was fun, the lights were working, we had the best time. I didn't lose any points.

On the 9th of May, Years 5 and 6 went to CARES. CARES stand for Community And Road Education Scheme. When we arrived we had to give Constable Birmingham and Constable Dodds who were taking care of us our license.
First we had to sit down because they were going to put us into our groups. There were 3 groups. The first group had to go and watch a video.
The video was about children who didn't wear their helmets and got into an accident. Some of them were really serious like one girl ran into a car and she couldn't write, walk and talk. Another one was a boy who had something happened to his back and he had to have a big plaster on it.
The 2nd group went to the Obstacle Course. What we did in the Obstacle Course was riding around and then coming down a line, we had to stop when we got to the end of the line and say Stop Signal, Scan, 1, 2, 3 and look around for traffic. Then we had to speed up the blue line and stop at the square at the end but we weren't allowed to skid. At the end we had to go in some squares and ride up it slowly. No one could beat the record.
The third group was on the Track. Constable Birmingham was telling us the instructions like you have to put out your left or your right hand if you were going to turn left or right. There were lights and they were working. After that we started riding. Whoever broke the rules lost a point. I only lost 1 point.
We went back to school after learning so much. It was
a fun day and I liked it very much.

On the 9th of May, Years 5 and 6 went to CARES. CARES stands for Community and Road Education Scheme. CARES is at a place called St. Ives.
We were split up into three groups. Xin Xin, Rosanna and I were in the third group. We did the track first. When we got to the track Constable Birmingham told us what the signs meant and what way we had to go in the round abouts and other things.
We learned that you always have to check your bicycle before you ride it and always wear a helmet so you don't hurt or damage your head. Then we went to get our bikes. The tall people had to get the big bikes. We went around the track and it started getting a bit boring.
After little lunch, we went to watch a video. It was about bicycle accidents. There was a boy that injured his head because he didn't wear a helmet. There was other people that also had different accidents. After the video, we looked at a bicycle which had lots of things wrong. The seat was backwards, the tyres were flat and other things.
After lunch we went to the obstacle course. It was fun. We went around witches hats with our bikes, we had to go on a straight line, we had to go as fast as we could and then we had to practice riding our bike as slow and long as we could. Then we had a competition of who can go the slowest on a bike in a square.
After that we went back to the shed and the people who didn't loose any points by skidding on the bike or going on the wrong way got some prizes.
Then we got back on the bus headed back to school. It was such a fun day.
Hand signals are useful when turing.

On Wednesday the 9th of May, Years 5 and 6 went to C.A.R.E.S at St Ives. C.A.R.E.S stands for Community And Road Education Scheme. When we got there we sat down and Constable Dodds ran through a few safety rules and some other rules.
Then we got into 3 groups, and I was in the 3rd group. We had three activities to do, and they were Videos, the Track and an Obstacle Course.
The first one I did was the track. Track was my favourite but it took ages until we started. There were 2 types of bikes BMX and Cruisers, I chose a Cruiser.
The second thing we did was the Videos with Mr Taylor. The video we watched was about a boy who didn't wear a helmet because his friends would laugh at him. One day when he was riding he smashed into a car and he went to hospital.
The last show we watched was about a boy who's dad bought him a brand new bike and helmet so when he saw the bike he just grabbed it and rode out his driveway but he didn't know that there was a car coming. So he went to heaven. The angel in heaven gave him another chance. He let him come back down to earth under one condition, he had to pass a test to without any mistakes and he passed!
The last activity we did was the Obstacle Course. The first thing we did was weaving through cones, then we came down a yellow line as accurate as we can. Then we had to ride as fast as we could up a blue line and stop in a box without skidding and then we had to ride down a few boxes as slow as we possibly could. We also had a slow competition which we had to ride as slow as we could in one box and I won!
We learnt all about the road signs, when to give way to people, you must always wear a helmet and check your bike before you ride.
At about 2:30pm we got on the bus and went back to
school. It was great.

On Wednesday the 9th of May, Years 5 and 6 went to C.A.R.E.S. which means Community And Road Education Scheme, it is controlled by the police. We left school around 9.15am.
When we arrived the police officers were waiting for us, we were given a talk and the police officer had a motto, it was 'less talking, more riding.' Then we were split up into 3 groups, I was in the number 2 group with Tara.
My group did the obstacle course. You had to go round these witches hats then over a speed bump then we had to try to follow this blue line as straight as we could and then we had to stop suddenly and say ‘Stop, Signal, Scan‘ and then look both ways for cars 3 times. Then we rode as fast as we could then stop in this white box without skidding then we had to go really really slow through these boxes.
We had recess then went to bike track. It had traffic lights, crossings, speed bumps and lots more they even had a imaginary McDonalds. We were even given a fake license with a limit of 4 points if you lost them you weren't allowed to go on the bikes again, I lost 2 for speeding.
After lunch we watched some videos about bike safety and what could happen to you if you did not were a helmet. We learnt that the worst thing that could happen to you was brain damage. Before you ride you should check your bike, tyres, chain and handle bars because it could prevent you from having an accident.
We had a great day and learnt a lot about bike safety.
Stop at red lights!

On the 9th of May classes 5/6T and 4/5G went to C.A.R.E.S. Our bus came at 9:15am, we had to travel a long way to get to C.A.R.E.S. When we got there, we met two police called Constable Birmingham and Constable Dodds. They were the ones who taught us about riding our bikes on the roads.
First they told us what C.A.R.E.S. stand for, Community and Road Education Scheme then we were divided to groups, there was group 1, 2 and 3. Group 1 watched a video about what could happen to us when we rode a bike without a helmet. After they watched the video they had to do an obstacle course, then they did the track. The track was a track for bikes to be like cars. There are stop lights, parking, round-a-bouts and signs.
Group 2 did the obstacle course first and then the track and after that it was was the video. Group 3 which I was in did the track first and then the video and the last was the obstacle course.
We learned that it is very dangerous to ride a bike without a helmet because of brain damage. You should check your bike, you have to check your brakes, your wheels and your lights, you should also check your chain is not too loose and has enough oil. We learnt we have to do signs like when your going right or left and when you're crossing and when you have to stop.
We had time to play after the events. When we were
all finished our events we rode the bus to school then waited for the bell
to ring to go home, it was great.
