On the 23rd of November Years 4, 5 and 6 had a Thanksgiving lunch in the hall.  Thanksgiving is a day Americans celebrate.  They have a big family feast and eat a lot.

They celebrate it because a long time ago a group of people from England called the Pilgrims went to live there.  They brought some food with them but when they finished it they were starving. The American Indians gave them some food.  That is why they have a feast every year on the fourth Thursday of November.

We had to bring in some food to share with everybody else.  I brought some Sushi.   First we had to line up in a huge line to get our food, then when we got our food we sat down in a table with our friends and ate our food.  There was lots and lots of food, there were pumpkin soup, pasta, salads and lots of others. We could go back for seconds.

I really enjoyed it and I wish I could do it again.
 

On Thursday 23rd November Years 4/5/6/ had a Thanksgiving lunch. We had the lunch because our American Keypals have a special holiday.

Thanksgiving is a day of sharing and started in about 1623 when the Pilgrims couldn't survive in America's habitat.  So the Native American Indians fed and taught the Pilgrims how to survive in their land.
 

On the 23rd of November, Brookvale's Years 4/5/6 classes had a Thanks Giving Lunch.

It  all started in 1623 when the Pilgrims went to live in the land called America. In the winter the Pilgrims nearly starved to death from the cold and the lack of rations. When they are about to die the Native American Indians came and fed them and taught them how to survive in the cold winter. That is how Thanksgiving started.

We had to bring in food and share it around with the other kids.
 

On Thursday the 23rd of November, classes 4/5G and 5/6T had a thanksgiving lunch in the hall. Thanksgiving is an American celebration. Schools in America have at least four days off from school to celebrate this time with their families and friends.

They celebrate it because a long time before now, a group of people called the Pilgrims that had come from England, went to America with food. Unfortunately they did not have enough to last them for a long time. Most of them were dying of starvation until the American Indians came and gave food to them.

We each had to bring in hot food or food that we could eat for lunch. I brought in Party Pies and Orange Juice. We had the Thanksgiving to learn about the America and also to learn how they celebrate. Of course, they didn't celebrate it the way we did it but they did it similar.

At the lunch we had American Indian hats and they were really nice. We ate food such as pasta, sausage rolls, sushi, salad etc. There were tables set out and there were two tables with the food on it.

The Manly Daily Newspaper came and took some photographs and put it in their Saturday paper. It was a great time and a fun celebration!
