Raking up leaves.
By Xin Xin
Last Friday we had a big clean up and garden day for the first day of Spring at our school. Each class had to plant some flowers and trees. Some parents came and helped us too.
After recess which was 11:30a.m. Miss Gray's class and our class went downstairs to clean the garden by putting the weeds into a plastic bag and then throwing them away.
Some children went with Mrs MacDonagh and we had to find a partner to help each other. My partner for the gardening was Narumi. First we got a bag full of weeds from the garden and put the leaves out into a big wooden box for composting which was near the small equipment playground.
Then we got to look around in the garden and pick all the weeds up in a big plastic bag. Narumi and I found an onion and pulled it out. Annalisa's partner was Ivy, they soon filled their bags up with weeds in. When we filled up our bags we had to throw them into the big rubbish bin near the big playground, because the wooden box was full of weeds.
Narumi and I worked around in the garden about 20 minutes. Some children found lots of carrots and vegetables and took it back home.
When we finished we got to wash our hands and go back to our classroom.
I think it is a good thing to have a clean up for the first day of Spring.

On the first day of spring the whole school got into groups to do different jobs and I had to do the weeding along with the rest of my group. Anything that wasn't a plant, vegetable or a fruit would be pulled out and put into a bag then brought down to the big green rubbish bins.
If we found any vegetables, herbs, fruits or anything like that we'd give them to the teacher and she'd put them on Joe's shed.
We also had to get dead leaves and put them into the compost. There was an accident and someone's bag burst in half and all the leaves fell out.
Another group had to put the bird seed into the bird feeders and other planted Australian trees and shrubs. I had a real fun day!
