On Wednesday the 9/2/00 Year 6 started Peer Mediation training. Mr Taylor took Year 6 to the Information Technology Centre.
First of all we had a discussion of what is Peer Mediation and an overview of how it works. After that we watched half of a video about a school in England who has Peer Mediation. At about 10:30am we did some worksheets which asked us some questions like : What do you think bullying is? What kind of person becomes a bully?
After morning tea we had a review and discussion of what we did before morning tea. Then we did some more worksheets. Later on we watched the other half of the video.
About half an hour later we had lunch, we ate hot dogs and a can of drink which were for free. After lunch we did a play, someone was the bully, and the another a victim ( Mr Taylor was the Peer Mediator),
I had a great day and I learnt a lot of things! We want to make our
school a better place.
On the 4th of February Year Six learnt about Peer Mediation with Mr Taylor in the I.T. Centre. We learnt lots of things like examples of bullying, what to do when there is bullying and how to deal with bullying.
One of the things we learnt was the causes of bullying. Some examples of bullying are name calling, secrets, back stabbing and much more. One of the worst causes are little kids saying to other kids ‘I'm not your friend any more or you can't play with us‘.
Each Year Six got a folder to put Peer Mediation forms in so we can
solve problems. We got into partners I'm in with Robin. We have only solved
one problem so far but it is good to try to make our school a better place.
Peer Mediation training is when the Year 6 students went down to the Information Technology Centre & learnt about Peer Mediation and how to be a Peer Mediator.
We have to do Peer Mediation when two (or more) kids have an argument or a fight. So what we have to do is work out their problem & hopefully at the end they become friends.
We had a lot of fun learning what to do, we even got to act out a play! I was the bully! We also got to watch a video about Peer Mediation in England, I learnt a lot!
At lunch we had a free hot dog and a drink, I had a great day!
