Brookvale Public School

 Eye Testing

As part of our student welfare policy the school arranged with a local optometrist to visit and test the eyes of all children at school. The Optometrist is Mr. Gary Robson located at Forestville. Mr. Robson is a fully qualified Optometrist with a special interest in children. He is very patient and works well with children.

A report will be forwarded to you through the school if further consultation is required. While the initial testing will be carried out at school, further consultations will need to be at his practice at Forestville. The testing will be free. He also bulk bills through his practice.

Mr. Robson has provided the following information:

"A child's  performance at school is affected by many factors. Eyes are one of these.

"A misconception is when a child can 'see correctly' then an eye problem does not exist. Unfortunately, 'seeing' is only a part of the overall visual efficiency, with accurate binocular co-ordination (eyes working as a team) being of great significance.

"Incorrect binocular co-ordination can lead to headaches, blurred sight, jumping lines and missing letters or words. The results can be reduced concentration span, loss of comprehension and reading ability.

"Basically children with visual difficulty fail to perform to their academic or sporting potential.
